Dr José Manuel Ramos-Horta was born in Dili on 26h December 1949, he is currently the Special Representative of  the Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Integrated Peace building Office in Guinea-Bissau. He was appointed on 2 January i2013.

 

Before Portugal’s Carnation Revolution, Dr Ramos Horta started his career as a journalist in 1969 and he was actively involved in the political development of Timor-Leste, which caused him to be exiled to Mozambique, the then Portuguese East Africa, from 1970 to 1971.

Late last week no more than 50 protesters chanted their displeasure towards the Australian government and also AusAid, which provides $120 million of aid to East Timor annually.
